Early Career

 

After my initial training and work as a marine engineer, my career in HSE Management started in 1986 at MaasGlas BV (float glass industry). My key results were the design and implementation of an integrated Health and Safety Management System (ISO 9001-structured), the reorganization of the HSE Department and the site HSE policies. In this capacity I was responsible for long-term projects concerning sulphuric dioxide, lead dust and asbestos exposure, as well as asbestos removal.

 

In 1994 I joined Mallinckrodt Medical BV (radiopharmaceutal production), first as an HSE project manager and later as head of the HSE Department. I developed and implemented the site’s long-/short-term HSE policies, a comprehensive system for internal HSE inspections, as well as internal and external training courses. I directed projects on behalf of HSE risk assessments, Regional Emergency Response Planning, HSE-related Permit Applications, and activities in the field of Regulatory Compliance.

 

Looking for a new challenge, in 2002 I switched from working as a manager and internal advisor to external consultancy by starting at ModuSpec BV, at that time the leading supplier of inspection and risk management services to the drilling industry. I travelled all over the world developing QHSE Management Systems, performing numerous audits, facilitating risk assessment workshops, developing HSE Cases, and acting as an Occupational Health and Safety advisor, mentor and coach.
