In a post-Macondo and Piper Alpha world, the role of operational integrity has been placed under increased scrutiny. Not only can a well-managed operational integrity programme help operators identify and reduce risks before they escalate, but focusing on operational integrity can also play a major role in both achieving operational excellence and extending the life of ageing assets.
The integrity of an operation depends on finding the right balance in the interaction between Human, Organizational and Technology (HOT) elements. This balance can be accomplished by using our Operational Integrity Management System (OIMS) framework. Insight in the critical balance can be provided through SyRiM’s high-level HOT Assessments, indicating the integrity level of an operation for a number of key aspects.
The OIMS framework we use has a strong resemblance to the ISO management system standards in the High-Level Structure (HLS). This is a set of ten elements that define the way to conduct business in a manner that is compatible with the environmental and economic needs of the communities in which the organisation operates, and which protects the health, safety and security of employees, people involved with the operations, customers, and the public.
